SlimCast #03 // Ryan Cass

It is with great pleasure that I can introduce to you one of my favorite local DJ talents around at the moment. No stranger to dropping his unique exclusive sets on various Sites & Podcasts, like  Edinburgh Evening News, Rockness festival and Edinburgh's Xile Clothing Brand which he has received top reviews for.  His very first guest mix for SHAdigital receiving more hits, downloads, listens and likes than Scotland's legendary duo SLAM's SHA christmas exclusive mix. YEAH! you read right, this kid has skills.

I am delighted to bring you another dope set from....

RYAN CASS

Since playing at Rockness in 2011 & 2012, in the Sub Club Sound System Arena alongside the likes of Harri, Domenic, Magda, Jeff Mills to name a few, the bookings have been flying in for one of Scotland rising DJ talents.

In the last couple of years he has had residency at on of Edinburgh's premier club nights 'Karnival' had various appearances at 'Musika' where he has DJ'ed alongside legendary figures such as Seth Troxler, John Digweed.

If that wasn't enough, earlier last year he was also booked to Dj with Harvey McKay and DJ Q & Agent at 'A Perfect Storm' boat party on the banks of Loch Lomond for a second year running.

He has also rocked 'No Strings Attached' in  Glasgow with Deetron at Chambre69, dropped a  top set at 'The Tunnels' in Aberdeen, and destroyed a dungeon with a sick set in a medieval castle south of the border!

Ryan is adding to his skill set and is now taking music production more serious, and is  looking to have some releases out in 2013/14 so stay locked.

You can catch Ryan live with his exclusive 5 hour set on the 9th November 2013 at H20 Bar in Galashiels.

SlimCast // SoundHaze

IN HERE, ITS ALL ABOUT THE SOUNDS & NOISES PEOPLE MAKE!

This part of my blog, this is where all the body moving noise will be emanating from.

You won't have to dig too deep to find the quality sound because I have the epic noise filter set to stun.

First up on SlimCast is, errrmmm?, weeeeelllll?!  ME!

I feel it's only right I start of the new noise adventure. Going forward there will be guest mixes a plenty with a few of my own thrown in for good luck.

SOUNDHAZE

Blew the cobwebs of the mixer, fired up Live, warped a few tracks, and instantly felt right at home again. True Story!

Few hours later playing about with this track and that one, and a computer freeze FAIL at the first attempt (Stepped away from said computer before size 12 foot went through monitor, and gave it a short while before attacking it again)

Jumped back in with both feet a wee while laters....

2nd run was all gravy baby!

TV - The Returned

"The Returned"

"Les Revenants"

When a friend  in my work said " I've been watching an excellent French tv series that I think would be right up your street"
I said "Whatcha talkin bout Willis!"

Then he went on to say " It's totally French speaking and fully subtitled all the way through"
I said "Ehhhh, NO THANKS!!!"

(As much as I would want you to believe I'm all arty farty, an into obscure foreign films/tv shows because it's a vibe I dig. There's little I hate more on tv, than watching  foreign speaking shows, fully subtitled which means my eyes are getting distracted away from the show itself....My problem, not the film or tv shows)

He then dropped the one and only thing he could have, that had me saying "What time did you say it was on again?!"
He hit me with this bombshell " It's like a modern day Twin Peaks only slightly darker"

I jumped in with both feet, and to be fair he was bang on the money. This show is superb, and the subtitles seem to add to the series,  giving the whole feel to the story that extra bit of suspense and tension.

The Returned is set in a small French mountain community, who find that several people they once thought dead and buried, suddenly turn up at their doors looking the same age as the day they passed away. Along with the return of the dead, comes terrible murders that remind the people in the community of a serial killer from their past.
There is also one hell of a 'Mexican Stand Off' the likes you have never seen or likely to see ever again.

If mystery,  suspense, tension filled drama, dark minimalistic acting of a very high quality is your bag. Then this will be right up YOUR street.

Ohh! and as a side note, the soundscore for the show  is supplied by Mogwai, who succeed in adding another fantastic layer of darkness & light to a already mood filled canvas.

A compellingly creepy 4.5 out of 5

Joking Bad

There are a few really good things on tv at the moment, and when two of my personal favourites combine I feel I have to share the love.

  1. Breaking Bad - If you are not deep into the journey that Walter White is on then shame on you. Shame on you for wasting time sitting in front of you TV and not watching, what will no doubt go down as one of thee best shows in TV history.  Big statement that I am more than happy to stand behind.
  2. Late Night With Jimmy Fallon -  What can I say? It's a guilty pleasure of mine. You will find me Sky+ing the show and watching a few of them back to back laughing out loud all the way. I find the combo of Fallon & Steve Higgins (Show Announcer) pure comedy gold. Back that up with superb guest that are up for a laugh and the outstanding Roots dropping the soundtrack to the show, it's a total Win for me. My only gripe is that we get a condensed version of the in the UK on the CNBC channel.
Put  the two shows together, mix them up and you get nothing but tv awesomeness.
Enjoy!!!

Film - This Is the End

This Is the End

After reading a few of the reviews on this film I expected to either hate it and want the time wasted watching it back, or think it's lol funny and really enjoy it.

I am pleased to say I fell into the later and found it really funny at bits.

If you go back a couple of day, maybe a week or so,  Comedy Central had the Roast of James Franco on. While it wasn't one of the better roasts, like Charlie Sheens or Flava Flav, I found it OK with Seth, Jonah and of course James Franco in it, and when the guys were up at the podium  roasting each other they referenced back to this film.

So with the extra piece of movie info thanks to the roast, along with the trailer, I decided to ignore the 1 out of 5, worst film ever, blasphemy of the worst kind, I hated this film reviews and make up my own mind.

As comedies go 'This Is The End' has a proper bat shit crazy story line that I enjoyed.

All your A-lister comedy dudes who play themselves in this film such as, Seth Rogan, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, Jonah Hill and Craig Robinson  all end up at a house party at James Franco's Manor. All having a wicked time only for the apocalypse to erupt at the front door and the beginning of the end kicking off  with fire, brimstone and the devil himself.

Michael Cera was quality comedy in this, if only for a short time, and some of the video recording bits were top dollar funny.

You will have to see it for yourself to see if the guys survived the first stages of the end of the world. All I will say is this, I managed to survive the 107mins and had more than a few laugh out loud moments along the way.

A LOL filled 3.5 out of 5
